Inter-City Service

What is Inter-City Service? Inter-City Service is a grant program funded by the FTA through the Kentucky Department of Transportation’s Office of Transportation Delivery. The purpose of the program is to provide expanded transportation services above and beyond the requirements of ADA. AACS/ GRITS applied for and received a grant to provide a new deviated fixed route service from outlying counties in to larger cities in the area for recreational, socialization and other services.
How does this new service work? AACS/ GRITS Transportation has purchased 2 new buses that will run routes from Webster County to Henderson on Mondays, from Ohio County to Owensboro on Tuesdays, from Union County to Henderson on Wednesdays, from Hancock County to Owensboro on Thursdays and from McLean County to Owensboro on Fridays.
How much does it cost? The cost of the ticket will be $1.00 for a round trip.
Where do I get a ticket? Tickets can be purchased from the senior citizens center in your county.
Where do I get on the bus? The GRITS New Freedom run will stop at various senior citizens centers in your county; a schedule of approximate departure and arrival times is available at your senior citizens center.
Who is eligible to ride? Anyone can ride the GRITS New Freedom run.
Can I be picked up and dropped off at my home like other GRITS services? No, GRITS New Freedom run only transports to the stops as shown on the schedule.
How do I catch the return trip back to my home county? You will need to be back at the location where you were dropped off at the assigned pick-up time.
Why do you need my name and phone number? In case you are not at the pick up location at the appointed time we will attempt to contact you.
Are GRITS Inter-City Service buses wheelchair accessible? Yes, our vehicles will accommodate 2 wheelchairs each.
Can I bring packages on the Inter-City Service bus? Yes, we can allow packages that can be placed in the overhead package area or under the seat in front of each passenger.
