To many elderly and isolated citizens, GRITS provides an essential service facilitating improved access to various needed services. GRITS does more than just get people to their destinations. The agency strives to provide safe, comfortable and timely service. It recognizes that ‘customer service’ is not just a slogan; it is the heart of its business. Every client is valued and treated with the utmost respect and care. GRITS transports people not packages.

Audubon Area Community Services - GRITS Transportation Program serves as the broker for Region 3 which comprises 7 counties in the Green River Area. Also in partnership with R-Tec, AACS/GRITS brokers trips to 7 counties in the Bowling Green Area.
The Human Service Transportation Delivery (HSTD) program provides non-emergency medical transportation services to eligible Medicaid recipients. The program also provides services to persons eligible for the Department for the Blind and Vocational Rehabilitation programs.
The HSTD program consolidates transportation services previously provided by various state governmental agencies. The former transportation delivery process was fragmented, increasingly costly, and vulnerable to fraud and abuse. Additionally, transportation services were not easily accessible in some rural areas. The services are now under the auspices of the Transportation Cabinet. HSTD is providing quality service, curbing fraud and abuse and streamlining costs. Non-emergency medical transportation had increased an average of 22.3% each year during the last 10 years, or cumulatively, grew 270% between 1991 and 1998 without expanding services.
Medicaid services are offered Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Urgent care services are offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The region-wide Human Service Transportation Delivery system is comprised of three separate programs grouping:
- (1.) Non-emergency medical transportation (excluding stretcher ambulance).
- (2.) Vocational Rehabilitation
- (3.) Department of Blind
| Program | Type of Reimbursement |
|---|---|
| Non-emergency medical transportation | Capitated Rate Structure |
| Vocational Rehab | Fee-for-Service |
| Department of Blind | Fee-for-Service |
